Samantha Butler is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based out of Portland, Maine, and Kearny, New Jersey. With a practice spanning various media in the visual and performing arts, her work is grounded in the heartfelt exploration and abstraction of interpersonal relationships. She has a deep appreciation for artwork that is tactile, architectural, and connects with the human body. She values collaborative and improvisational methods of making, and has worked as a set designer and art director for theatrical and commercial video productions.
Samantha loves working with artists and empowering them to achieve their visions. This passion has led her to become a Co-Director of New System Exhibitions in Portland, Maine where she strives to provide opportunities for early-career artists in a semi-traditional gallery space. She received her BA from Connecticut College where she studied the representation of gender and sexuality in contemporary American culture and studio art.
Samantha was recently in residence in Kearny, New Jersey, where she was working alongside artists from Maine and New Jersey to pioneer Kearny Point’s "Gardenship" Artist Residency program.
